Publishing blogs
A blog is short for online 'web log'. By publishing blogs, journalists and travel writers, out in the field, could keep a sort of online diary, or log their daily experiences.
This has exploded into a new, dynamic, method of web - publishing. The most likely reason for this is that a blog is dynamic unlike a website which is largely static information. It has now become the best way to publicise a website. A blog can be read by a special 'feed reader' such as http://www.google.com/reader It's called a 'feed' reader because the 'blog' is 'fed' as a continuous string of articles in date order. (in the form of XML, but more about that later).
If you want to write a blog, check out the free 'blogger' software http://www.blogger.com (so good that it was also acquired by Google). It's a simple to use, basic text/image handling and publishing tool for blogs.
One problem with Blogger, is that it is hosted by Google, so you don't have total control, so another, better option is Wordpress to quote them...
"WordPress is a state-of-the-art publishing platform with a focus on aesthetics, web standards, and usability. WordPress is both free and priceless at the same time."
Wordpress has a huge following. You have total control as you host it yourself along with your website and it has many third-party plug-ins to give it awesome functionality.
Whether you use blogger, wordpress or some other software to create a blog, you can 'blast it out' to your readership using feedburner (again acquired by Google)to publish and advertise it. |
